UP Officials Cover Mosques with Tarpaulins – Here’s Why

Authorities in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, have placed tarpaulin sheets over several mosques ahead of Holi celebrations. Nearly ten mosques in the city were covered to prevent color powders from falling on them during the festivities. Given that Holi coincides with the Friday prayers of Ramadan, officials took precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incidents.

Security forces were deployed around mosques situated along the routes of Holi processions. Authorities also conducted discussions with both communities to ensure peace. A mutual agreement was reached, allowing Holi celebrations to take place until 2:30 PM, followed by uninterrupted Friday prayers.

Last year, violence erupted in Sambhal when officials attempted to conduct a court-ordered survey of Jama Masjid. The unrest resulted in multiple casualties. In response, heavy security has been deployed in the city. Police officials stated that the situation in Sambhal is currently peaceful, with residents engaged in their daily activities. However, given the sensitive nature of the area, authorities implemented additional security measures to prevent communal tensions during Holi and Ramadan. The Peace Committee was consulted to ensure smooth proceedings for both events.
