AI and Deep Tech Propel Andhra Pradesh Towards Progress: Nara Lokesh

During the second day of his visit to Davos, Andhra Pradesh Minister for IT, Electronics, Human Resource Development, and Education, Nara Lokesh, participated in multiple meetings and conferences. Among these, he attended a roundtable discussion titled “AI for Good – Shaping a Smarter, Sustainable Tomorrow,” held at Davos Belvedere.

The session, moderated by NDTV Group’s Executive Editor Vishnu Som, featured prominent participants such as Matt Rennert, President of Global Revenue at Google Cloud; Archana Vyas, Director of Program Advocacy at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; and Daniel Suskind, Senior Research Associate at Oxford University.

Speaking at the event, Nara Lokesh highlighted the global investments being made in artificial intelligence (AI) to implement streamlined governance models in today’s advanced technological era. He projected the global AI market to reach $243 billion this year, with an estimated annual growth rate of 27.67% through 2030.

Andhra Pradesh Leads in Tech Adoption

Nara Lokesh emphasized the progressive governance under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership, stating that Andhra Pradesh has been at the forefront of leveraging advanced technologies like AI and deep tech for effective governance and social development.

He noted, “We are collaborating with global giants like Google to integrate AI into the governance framework. This initiative aims to revolutionize service delivery and bring transformative changes to the administrative ecosystem.”

India’s AI market, ranked fourth globally on the Global Vibrancy Index, is expected to grow by 27.86% to $8.3 billion this year. Lokesh also pointed out India’s commitment to AI leadership through the allocation of ₹10,354 crore for the National AI Mission in the Union Budget, fostering a robust ecosystem for AI research, development, and innovation.

AI’s Potential in Job Creation

Citing a joint study by ServiceNow and Pearson, Lokesh mentioned that India’s AI sector is projected to create 2.73 million new jobs by 2028.

Collaboration with Google for AI Solutions

The Andhra Pradesh government is planning to establish an AI City in Amaravati, aiming to enhance agricultural productivity through the integration of AI and remote sensing technologies. Lokesh added that efforts are underway to use AI in public health to provide cost-effective healthcare and improve service delivery.

This collaboration with Google focuses on developing AI solutions, enhancing digital infrastructure, and promoting skill development within the local startup ecosystem. “By leveraging partnerships among government, industry, and academia, we aim to address real-world challenges with AI, creating a broad and lasting impact,” said Nara Lokesh.
