Lawyer Cannot Accompany KTR in the Investigation Room: Telangana High Court

In a significant development concerning the Formula E car case, the Telangana High Court rejected the plea of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) seeking permission for his lawyer to accompany him during the investigation. KTR had filed a lunch motion petition requesting that his lawyer be allowed to be present alongside him during the questioning process.

Upon reviewing the petition, the High Court dismissed KTR’s plea, asserting that there was no necessity for the lawyer to sit beside him during the inquiry. The court made it clear that the presence of a lawyer inside the investigation room would not be permitted. However, it allowed KTR’s lawyer to remain at a slight distance from where he would be questioned, ensuring that the lawyer could observe the proceedings without direct interference.

The court further asked KTR’s legal counsel to provide the names of three lawyers who would represent him. Additionally, the High Court questioned whether any Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) regulation explicitly allowed lawyers to supervise investigations in such cases. The Additional Advocate General assured the court that they would respond to the query by 4 PM. Consequently, the High Court adjourned the hearing to 4 PM for further deliberation on the matter.
