CM Chandrababu Announces Polavaram Project Action Plan
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has unveiled the action plan for the construction of the Polavaram Project, emphasizing key targets for its completion. After reviewing the project works on-site, he held discussions with officials and addressed the media, announcing that the project’s action plan has been submitted to the Polavaram Project Authority.
The Chief Minister stated that the Minister of Water Resources and the Special Chief Secretary would visit Delhi to present the action plan to the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti. He added that consultations with international experts and the Central Water Commission would help finalize the project plan.
According to the proposed schedule, the critical Earth-cum-Rock Fill (ECRF) Dam Gap-1 is expected to be completed by February 2026, while Gap-2 and other works are planned for completion by December 31, 2027. However, the state government aims to complete these works by July 2027.
The Left Canal works, initially scheduled for completion by February 2027, are now targeted for completion by July 2026. Land acquisition for over 16,000 acres is set to be completed by April 2025.
CM Chandrababu directed that the Right Canal works be completed by April 2026. The Diaphragm Wall construction, projected from January 2025 to February 2026, has been expedited for completion by December 2025.
He also instructed officials to partially complete the ECRF Dam by August 2026, enabling water storage at the Cofferdam site and supplying water through the Right and Left Canals using gravity.
