Chandrababu Hails Polavaram as Superior to China’s Three Gorges Dam

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu visited the Polavaram project site today, conducting a review meeting with officials and engineers. During the visit, he declared that Polavaram is a superior project compared to China’s Three Gorges Dam. He emphasized that significant efforts were made between 2014 and 2019 to advance the project. “We worked tirelessly day and night, setting a world record by pouring 32,000 cubic meters of concrete at once,” he stated.

Highlighting previous achievements, he recalled that the diaphragm wall was completed in just 414 days with the assistance of Germany-based Bauer company. He added that 72% of the project work had been completed by 2019. However, Chandrababu alleged that after the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) took power, the contractor was replaced, and the project faced setbacks. He criticized the implementation of reverse tendering, claiming it disrupted the Polavaram dam's progress.

He described Polavaram and Amaravati as the two essential lifelines of Andhra Pradesh, asserting that the project would transform the state once completed.

According to Chandrababu, the project would create a new irrigation potential for 700,000 acres and stabilize 2.3 million acres of agricultural land. He also noted that Polavaram would meet the industrial water needs of Visakhapatnam.
