"NTR’s Life is a Lesson for All," Says Venkaiah Naidu

Former Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu, described Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) as a man of destiny and a person with an unwavering determination. Speaking at the NTR Cine Diamond Jubilee celebrations held today in Poranki, Krishna district, Venkaiah Naidu praised NTR’s discipline, perseverance, and hard work as the qualities that stood out the most to him. "If one cultivates these three traits, they can rise to great heights in life. Emulating these values is the best tribute we can pay to this great personality," he said.

Venkaiah Naidu lauded NTR's multifaceted personality, stating, "NTR possessed character, caliber, capacity, and conduct in abundance. A deeper look into his films reveals messages in his dialogues and songs. As an actor, producer, director, and distributor, NTR's contributions to cinema are etched in golden letters. His concentration was extraordinary, and once he decided on something, he wouldn’t rest until it was accomplished. For some roles, he followed strict dietary regimes and was known for taking bold decisions when necessary."

Referring to NTR’s versatility, Venkaiah Naidu noted, "As an actor, he excelled both as a protagonist and an antagonist. For instance, his portrayal of Rama and Ravana showcased his artistic brilliance. In the case of Ravana Brahma, he captured every nuance of the character. Similarly, his performances as Lord Krishna, Duryodhana—whom he preferred to call Suyodhana—and other mythological figures brought out the best of his acting prowess. NTR highlighted the virtues in Duryodhana and presented them effectively."

Venkaiah Naidu emphasized the charismatic appeal of NTR, saying, "NTR had a magnetic presence, an unmatched aura. Whether in costume or not, NTR remained unparalleled. His titles, such as 'Viswa Vikhyata Nata Sarvabhouma,' were well-earned and reflect the global reach of his acting. He brought Telugu culture and talent to the world stage."

Acharya Ranga once shared an interesting anecdote. He sent his attendant to cast a vote, instructing him to vote for the "hand" symbol. However, when the attendant returned, he was walking hesitantly. Curious, Acharya Ranga asked if he had voted for the "hand" symbol as instructed. The attendant replied, "I was about to, but then I saw Lord Krishna's image in the wheel of the 'cycle' symbol, so I voted for the cycle instead."

This reflects the profound impact of NTR's acting. While we have never seen Lord Krishna in reality, NTR’s portrayal of Krishna left such a lasting impression that people began to envision the deity in his image. Such was the power of his artistry and his ability to bring mythological characters to life.

Venkaiah Naidu highlighted NTR’s enduring legacy in Indian cinema and politics. "In villages, people fondly referred to him as ‘NT Vodu.’ His dedication to portraying characters like Bhishma, Srinatha, and other legendary figures was unparalleled. His love for the Telugu language was profound, and he even named the party he founded as 'Telugu Desam.' Initially, many were surprised by the name, but in just a few months, he defeated the Congress in Andhra Pradesh, becoming the first to achieve such a feat. He later united regional parties to challenge Congress at the national level under the National Front banner," Venkaiah Naidu said.

Venkaiah Naidu also praised NTR’s efforts to uplift backward communities and ensure women's rights. "NTR had immense respect for women, which is why he introduced property rights for them. History will never forget this contribution. His initiative for women’s reservation in politics was a monumental achievement. He stood as a nightmare for the corrupt and a nemesis to those who violated laws," Venkaiah Naidu remarked.

Reflecting on NTR’s untimely demise, Venkaiah Naidu said, "In a way, his departure at a relatively young age left a void that is impossible to fill for the Telugu people. His life story deserves to be included in academic curricula. It would be a fitting tribute, and no one can criticize such a step politically. NTR transcended politics and remains etched in the hearts of Telugu people forever."
