AP Government Dissolves Waqf Board; New GO Issued

The Andhra Pradesh government has made a significant decision regarding the AP Waqf Board. The Waqf Board constituted by the previous YSRCP government has been dissolved. The government issued orders to this effect on Saturday. The present coalition government repealed G.O. 47, which was issued by the Minority Welfare Department under the previous administration, according to State Minister for Law and Minority Welfare, NMD Farooq.

The minister stated that G.O. 75 has been issued by the Minority Welfare Department to cancel the earlier G.O. The minister highlighted that on October 21 of last year, appointments to the Waqf Board made by the previous government were challenged in the state's High Court. The court issued interim orders to halt the process of selecting the Waqf Board chairman.

Minister Farooq explained that due to various legal issues, there has been an administrative vacuum in the Waqf Board. To resolve this, the coalition government has annulled the contentious G.O. issued by the previous administration and has introduced the new G.O. 75.

He further stated that the coalition government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, is committed to the management and protection of Waqf properties and the welfare of minorities. The government’s actions are aligned with these objectives, he added.
