Lagacherla Incident: 55 People Arrested

The government has responded strongly to the Lagacherla incident in Vikarabad district. In connection with the attack on officials who visited for public opinion collection, police have taken 55 individuals into custody. Additionally, internet services have been suspended in Dudyala, Kodangal, and Bomraspet mandals. Police have been deployed in Lagacherla to maintain order.

A public meeting was held yesterday in Lagacherla, Dudyala mandal, Vikarabad district to gather opinions on land acquisition for a proposed Pharma City. Villagers, unwilling to give up their land for the project, attacked the district collector and other officials with sticks and stones. Both the collector and additional collector narrowly escaped harm. However, the villagers damaged vehicles belonging to the officials.

Special officer Venkat Reddy was seriously injured in the attack, which saw villagers assaulting him with sticks and stones. He fled through the fields to escape. When Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Srinivas Reddy attempted to intervene, the villagers also attacked him, intensifying tensions in the village. The government has taken the incident very seriously. In response, police have identified and arrested 55 individuals involved in the attack. Extensive security arrangements have been made in the village to prevent further incidents.
