Mistakes Were Made in the Past Five Years: AP DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao
Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Dwaraka Tirumala Rao acknowledged that mistakes were indeed made in the past five years. Responding to comments made by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Monday, the DGP stated on Tuesday in a media interaction in Anantapur that he would not comment directly on the Deputy CM’s remarks. He admitted that certain errors and shortcomings occurred under the previous administration and said efforts are now being made to correct these mistakes.
The DGP emphasized that the police department is prioritizing human rights, as well as the protection of women and children in Andhra Pradesh. He outlined steps being taken to make the police system more responsible and accountable to the public. DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao also noted that, under the former government, the police did not perform their duties effectively. He recalled an incident where an attack on a political party's office took place, and the police failed to act responsibly.
He mentioned that, despite clear indications about the nature of the attack, it was mentioned as an act of freedom of expression, and no arrests were made. Addressing the allegations against Inspector General (IG) Sanjay, he explained that an investigation is underway by the government, and the report will first go to the General Administration Department (GAD) before reaching them. DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao underscored that action can be taken against wrongdoers even years after the offense, citing a case in Kerala where an IPS officer was punished 20 years after the fact.
