Telugu IAS Officer Ravi Kotha Named Chief Secretary of Assam

Ravi Kotha, an IAS officer originating from Kotapadu village in Santabommali Mandal of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh, has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of the Assam Government. He is set to serve as the 51st Chief Secretary of the state. A 1993 batch IAS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Ravi assumed his responsibilities on Sunday, succeeding Paban Kumar Borthakur upon his retirement.

Born on April 12, 1966, Ravi has served in various capacities in both the Central and State governments over a span of 30 years. He has also served as the head of the Economic Division in the Indian Embassy in Washington D.C., USA, extensively working on India-USA diplomatic relations and partnerships.

During his tenure as the Joint Secretary to the 15th Finance Commission, he presented significant reports addressing the economic challenges faced by states and Union territories. Ravi played a key role in designing public finance and macroeconomic policies. Notably, he is the first doctorate to take on the role of Chief Secretary of Assam. Along with his duties as Chief Secretary, Ravi will also be responsible for the additional roles of industries, commerce, public sector undertakings, and the finance department.
