Andhra Pradesh High Court Rules in Favor of Amaravati Farmers Over Plot Cancellations
Vijayawada: Farmers from Amaravati, the capital region of Andhra Pradesh, received significant relief in the Andhra Pradesh High Court today. The court dismissed the notices that had annulled the plots given to the farmers.
Initially, the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) had allotted plots to farmers who had contributed their lands for the capital's development. However, after the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government came into power, these allotments were canceled. The CRDA and revenue officials issued notices to 862 farmers, canceling the allotted plots, which led the farmers to seek justice from the High Court.
Challenging the government's notices as unjust, the petitioners argued that canceling the plots violated the CRDA Act. They contended that the decision to cancel the plots was contrary to the capital's master plan. Representing the petitioners, senior advocates Adinarayana Rao and Indranil presented their arguments in court. In response, the government's lawyer stated that amendments had been made to the law.
After hearing both sides, the High Court bench ruled in favor of the capital's farmers, declaring the cancellation notices issued by the Commissioner and Deputy Tahsildar as invalid.
