There has never been a PM as popular as Indira Gandhi: Siddaramaiah
Bengaluru, Oct 31: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that there has never been a Prime Minister as popular as Indira Gandhi, while describing the late premier "a very brave woman".
Speaking at commemoration programme organised on the occasion of the death anniversary of former PM Indira Gandhi at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee office here, Siddaramaiah said she was a deity of the poor of the country.
"The assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi is a big loss for the country. These three became martyrs and sacrificed their lives for the country.
The sacrifices they made are documented in the soil of our country," he said.
Criticising the BJP, Siddaramaiah said that it has no history of their leaders sacrificing lives for the country. "They just make empty speeches."
He further said: "Today is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birthday and recalled the events and his struggle and said that his contribution in the freedom struggle of the country was immense."
