Bihar Lawyer Wins Case Against Restaurant for Missing Sambar with Dosa

In a surprising turn of events, Manish Pathak, a lawyer in Bihar, has won a legal battle against a local restaurant for not including sambar in a dosa order. The case brings up unique concerns regarding customer rights and service expectations in the food industry.

The dispute began when Pathak placed an order for a special masala dosa to be delivered to his home, priced at ₹140. Upon receiving the parcel, he discovered that it only contained the dosa and accompanying chutney, but not the traditional side dish of sambar.

Choosing to stand up for his rights as a consumer, Pathak took the issue to the consumer commission. For nearly a year, he argued his case, asserting that the restaurant had failed to provide a complete meal as promised.

After 11 months of deliberation, the court ruled in favour of Pathak. The restaurant has been ordered to pay a fine of ₹3,500 as a penalty for their incomplete service.

The commission has given the restaurant a strict deadline of 45 days to pay the fine. The restaurant will face an additional 8% interest charge if they fail to pay within the given timeframe.
