Virat Kohli becomes second highest run-scorer in T20 World Cup history
Hyderabad: Former captain of Team India and run machine Virat Kohli has achieved another feat. He is the second-highest scorer in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup. He broke the record set by West Windies giant Chris Gayle.
Kohli created this record in the T20 World Cup Super-12, Group-II match against the Netherlands at Sydney Grounds Thursday. In this match, Kohli scored 62 runs (not out) in 44 balls. It has three fours and two sixes. Including these runs, the number of runs scored by Kohli in the T20 World Cup has reached 989 runs. Kohli achieved this feat with an average of 89.90 in 21 innings in 23 matches. There were 12 fifties in this total score. The best score was 89 not out.
In the T20 World Cup, Kohli won the 'Man of the Tournament' in 2014 (319 runs) and 2016 (273 runs). Kohli is the first player to win the 'Man of the Series' award twice. Meanwhile, West Indies cricket legend Chris Gayle scored 965 runs in 31 innings in 33 matches at an average of 34.46. He has two centuries and seven fifties. The best score was 117 runs. Now Kohli has erased the record.
And the record for most runs in the T20 World Cup is held by the former Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene. Jayawardene scored 11,016 runs at an average of 39.07. It has a century and six fifties. The best score is 100 runs.
