Ex-DU professor finally gets relief

Nagpur, October 14: Finally, after six years in jail, Delhi University former professor Dr Gokarakonda Naga Saibaba got relief. The Bombay High Court on Friday acquitted the professor in a case for alleged links with Maoists. The Nagpur bench of Bombay HC also acquitted five others from the charges of alleged links with Maoists and directed to release the convicts forthwith from jail unless they are accused in any other case.
 
Over allegations of having links with Maoists, police arrested Professor Saibaba, a journalist, Jawaharlal Nehru University student and a few others in May 2014. Sessions court sentenced them to life imprisonment. Since then, they are in Nagpur central prison and appealed to Bombay High Court challenging life imprisonment. 
 
Meanwhile, the Delhi University has suspended professor Saibaba after he was arrested in 2014. Last year he was totally removed from the job. Its not known whether he will be taken back to the job or not, after he was acquitted in the case.
