MGM opens special clinic for transgenders

Warangal, August 2: Transgenders still face discrimination everywhere in the society, especially they face problems in getting medical services, who often suffer health issues due to re-assignment surgery.
After observing their plight, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital in Warangal came forward to provide physical and mental medical services to the transgenders. For the first time in the State, the MGM opened a special clinic for them. Warangal District Collector Gopi will inaugurate the clinic on today. Every Tuesday from 9 am to 12 pm, doctors will see transgenders at 133 and 134 OP rooms in MGM.
They will get psychological counseling, hormonal therapy, sex re-assignment surgery, breast transplantation and other medical services by specialists. The hospital management set up a helpline number – 99631 64111. Transgender patients can call this number and inform their name and health issue. The staff will inform the clinic timings. 
Medical services are being provided by National Health Mission in Tamil Nadu. In Telangana State, MGM took the initiative on its own.
