Water level at Godavari recedes, but still above danger level
Kothagudem, July 17: The water level of River Godavari at Bhardachalam has been receding due to slight decrease in inflows from upper reaches. The water level of Godavari was above 71 feet on Saturday afternoon and slowly started reducing since evening and reached 64 feet on Sunday morning.
But, the officials said that there is still flood threat and cautioned the people to be alert for another 24 hours. All necessary measures have been taken, they informed.
Though the floods have been receding, hundreds of villages are under water. Third warning is continuing at Bhadradri. People of flood-affected villages will have to stay at rehabilitation centres for another two to three days. Officials told them that they have to stay at these centres till Godavari water level reaches second warning and continues at the same.
A total of 25,975 people of 7,545 families living in 87 villages of nine mandals in Kothagudem district are staying at 75 rehabilitation centres. Crop loss occurred in thousands of acres due to floods. Electric poles were uprooted, roads cut off and public transportation was totally suspended.
