Ponniyin Selvan: Mani Ratnam's 40-year dream, planned with Vijay-Maheshbabu

Chennai: Rajamouli's film Baahubali changed the shape of Indian cinema. It gave the courage to make big-budget films. Robot, Baahubali and KGF movies have proved that “if we have good content in our hands, we can release it in two parts if we believe that we can entertain the audience. Now, Ponniyin Selvan is going the same way.”
Tamil legendary director Mani Ratnam's 40-year dream is Ponniyin Selvan's project. As far as Kollywood is concerned, since 1958, many directors and heroes have tried to make this movie. Tamil first-generation star hero MGR tried hard to get Ponniyin Selvan. After that, Mani Ratnam has been trying for years to make Ponniyin Selvan.

Once Mani Ratnam planned this project in the combination of Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Vijay Kanth,  but could not. After that, he wanted to make this historical film in the combination of Vijay and Mahesh Babu, but there were budget issues. Mani Ratnam has been waiting for years that the budget required for this film is not enough for the Kollywood market.

After his film Nawab in 2018, Mani Ratnam once again focused seriously on the Ponniyin Selvan project. The reason for that is the sensational success of the Baahubali series. With the inspiration of Baahubali, Lyca Productions is producing this film with the highest budget in the Tamil film industry. The film will be released in two parts, starring Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Sarath Kumar, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Vikram Prabhu and others in lead roles. The first part is releasing on September 30.
