Heavy rains in AP, lightening alert in 10 districts

Amaravathi, June 6: Heavy rains are lashing out several places in Andhra Pradesh as the southwest monsoon entered Kerala three days early. Heavy rains along with lightening and thunders have drenched Chittoor, Kurnool, Kadapa, Visakhapatnam and Ongole districts since Sunday night. Trees and electric poles fell due to strong winds at several places, interrupting power supply.
 
Meanwhile, on Sunday night, a car got washed away in Kallivanka stream near Hathibelagal in Alur mandal. According to sources, Kallivanka stream was flowing heavily due to the rains on Sunday. A Ford car from Karnataka, on its way from Guntakal to Alur, got washed away in the stream. 
 
After getting information, Alur police reached the spot and searching for the vehicle. There is no information as to how many passengers are there in the car. 
 
The meteorological department warned lightening strike in 10 districts in the State. Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Alluri Sitharama Raju, East and West Godavari districts are likely to get lightening strike. People were cautioned to be alert as heavy thunderstorms. Farmers, agricultural labourers, shepherds were told not to be in open places during heavy rains and to take shelter in buildings.
