Central govt orders probe into Mission Bhagiratha implementation by special officer

Hyderabad: The Central government has stepped in to investigate the Mission Bhagiratha, a scheme being implemented by the TRS government for providing drinking water to all the houses across Telangana. The Central government has appointed a special officer for this investigation. The Centre on Monday issued orders to this effect.

It may be recalled that the TRS government has announced the Mission Bhagirath scheme for the supply of drinking water to households across the State. The State government has spent large sums of money on the project. However, the Jala Jeevan Commission recently conducted a survey on the implementation of the scheme.

The Commission's survey report was recently submitted to the Central government. Based on that report, a complaint was lodged with the Union Ministry of Water Resources against the scheme. Based on this complaint, the Centre has ordered an inquiry into the scheme.

The probe may lead to a political slugfest between the Central and State governments as they are already at loggerheads on paddy procurement. Chief Minister KCR went to Delhi and staged a dharna, along with TRS leaders and workers, blaming the Centre for not procuring paddy from Telangana farmers.
