Youth tries to courier drugs from Vijayawada to Australia, nabbed

Amaravathi, May 2: Bengaluru customs officials arrested a courier boy and seized 4.49 kilo ephedrine, worth about Rs 89.92 lakh, at Bengaluru international airport on Friday.
Vijayawada central zone ACP Khadar Basha briefed the media about the case. According to him, Kondaveti Gopi Sai of Sattenapalli of Palnadu district, approached DST courier at Bharati Nagar in Vijayawada to send a parcel of clothes to Australia on January 31 this year. Guttula Teja, staff at the couriers, asked him to give Aadhar card, which is mandatory to send parcels. Gopi Sai said the number was not clear on his Aadhar card and requested Teja to book the parcel on his Aadhar number. Teja booked the parcel with his Aadhar number.
But the parcel went to Canada instead of Australia due to wrong address and later returned to Bengaluru airport as the address could not be traced. 
Customs officials found out 4.49 kg of ephedrine powder in the parcel and based on the address and other details on the parcel, they summoned Guttula Teja to Bengaluru. Customs officials took him into custody on April 27 and informed the same to Vijayawada police and to the family members of Teja.
During interrogation, Guttula Teja informed that he entered his Aadhar card number on the parcel since the Aadhar card of Gopi Sai, the person who booked the parcel, was not clear. 
The ACP said that earlier also Gopi Sai sent pickle parcels three times from DST couriers, Bharati Nagar to abroad. Police are investigating whether these parcels contain pickles or drugs.
Meanwhile, Sattenapalli police on Sunday arrested Gopi Sai at Lakkarajugarlapadu village of Palnadu district. Gopi Sai studied B Tech in Chennai and has been residing in the village for the past six months.
