Vijayawada city under police cordon as UTF calls 'Chalo CMO' today

Vijayawada, April 25: Demanding Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to fulfil his promise of scrapping the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), the United Teachers Federation (UTF) gave a call for 'Chalo CMO' on Monday.

In a bid to foil the UTF's protest, the police took 18 UTF leaders into preventive custody in the Krishna district on Sunday night and they were released on Monday morning on personal surety. The UTF district treasurer Varaprasad condemned the detention of the UTF leaders and faulted the AP government for not allowing them to stage a stir in a peaceful manner.

The cops beefed up security on Chennai-Kolkata national highway and check-posts were set up at various places to stop the UTF leaders and teachers from proceeding towards the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). Security personnel in large numbers were deployed in and around CMO. Meanwhile, Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanti Rana Tata stated that no permission was granted to the UTF’s protest.
