AP bans doctors working in govt hospitals from doing private practice

In a Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, a decision was taken to ban doctors working in government hospitals from doing private practice. The Cabinet directed the higher officials to formulate rules and regulations in this regard.

The AP government has been improving infrastructure and medical facilities in government hospitals by spending funds in a big way under the Nadu-Nedu programme. Even, hundreds of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff were recruited in the last two years to strengthen the government hospitals.

People are of the opinion, according to the state government, that government doctors are providing better services in hospitals in which they are doing private practice than in government hospitals. The government is of the view that the ban on private practice would make doctors to provide best medical services to people.
