10 lawyers held at Hanamkonda for damaging court hall

Tension prevailed in the district court at Hanamkonda in Warangal district when the police forcibly prevented the agitating lawyers from entering the court. The lawyers were protesting against the suspension of two lower court judges by the Hyderabad High Court on Monday on disciplinary grounds for protesting against provisional allocation of judicial officers in the two Telugu States. One of the judges is president of the Telangana Judges’ Association. The main reason for the protests is the non-bifurcation of the high court after Telangana was created. As part of the agitation, the lawyers boycotted the courts and ransacked furniture in a court hall. The guarding police personnel tried to prevent the lawyers from resorting to vandalism which led to commotion between the lawyers and police. The agitating lawyers raised anti-police slogans and also against the judges of Andhra origin. According to a report, ten lawyers were taken into custody by the police and shifted to Subedari police station. Later, the agitating lawyers gathered before the police station and squatted on the road demanding release of their colleagues.
