Pass GST & take credit, Jaitley chides Rahul Gandhi

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has chided Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi for taking credit for the rollback of the Emloyees Provident Fund tax on EPF withdrawals. Jaitley said if that was the case, why should not Rahul Gandhi take credit for the passage of the Goods and Services Tax Bill also? he asked. Rahul had claimed: `My pressure worked... I had warned the government against suppressing the salaried class'. He went on: `The attempt to tax the safety net of millions of hardworking, middle class people is morally wrong and shows the government's anti-people mindset.' To this Jaitley retorted that if so, why didn't the UPA create a social safety net for the people when it was in power. Referring to the GST, he said that was not a `BJP Bill' but that of the country. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister said the Congress was hurting the poor by not letting pass important pieces of legislation in Parliament.
