Congress fields former MP for Warangal by-election

Hyderabad, Oct 31 : The Congress on Saturday named former MP Siricilla Rajaiah as its candidate for the by-election to Telangana's Warangal Lok Sabha constituency, scheduled for November 21. Rajaiah was elected from the same constituency as Congress candidate in 2009 elections but lost to Telangana Rashtra Samithi's Kadiam Srihari in the last year's elections. The vacancy was caused by the resignation of Srihari, who was inducted into Telangana cabinet and made deputy chief minister in January. The seat is reserved for the scheduled castes. The ruling TRS on Friday announced Pasanuri Dayakar as its candidate for the by-election. Dayakar has been associated with the party since its inception in 2001 and is also the sculptor of Talli Telangana statue. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is contesting the by-poll in alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), is yet to name its candidate. In the last year's elections, BJP's candidate Ramagalla Parameshwar had stood third. The last date for filing of nominations is November 4. The scrutiny of nominations will be held the next day. November 7 is the last date for withdrawal of candidatures.
