Nine Government Doctors in Andhra Pradesh Promoted as DCHS Officers

Nine government doctors in Andhra Pradesh were promoted as District Coordinator of Health Services (DCHS) officers on Friday as part of the recruitment process for these district-level posts. Currently, six DCHS positions remain vacant, and two more are expected to become available soon. The promotions were approved by Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Satya Kumar Yadav.
To be eligible for promotion to DCHS, doctors must have served as Civil Surgeon Specialists (CSS) for three years and have at least two years of service remaining before retirement. Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, after reviewing the promotion proposals, observed that out of 85 eligible candidates, 50 declined the promotion to DCHS.
Expressing serious concern over this trend, the minister noted that 59% of eligible doctors refused the promotion. He also highlighted that in a recent promotion drive, 33% of qualified doctors had declined promotion to professor positions, making this latest refusal of DCHS promotions a significant issue.
In response, Minister Satya Kumar Yadav directed senior officials to conduct a thorough review of the reasons behind government doctors rejecting promotions and to explore possible solutions.
