Professor Arrested for Misconduct Towards Student in Tirupati
The teaching profession is held in high regard, with teachers enjoying a unique position of respect and recognition in society. Teachers are often revered as being second only to divinity. However, some educators tarnish this esteemed status by engaging in reprehensible acts, particularly sexual misconduct towards students.
In recent times, several such incidents involving school and college teachers have come to light. In some cases, outraged parents have even taken justice into their own hands against offending teachers. Many educators with such deviant behavior have faced legal action.
A recent case has emerged from Sri Venkateswara Agricultural College in Tirupati, where a professor was arrested for sexually harassing a student. According to reports, the victim, a first-year student with academic backlogs, had re-enrolled and resumed attending classes. During one of these classes, the professor, Uma Mahesh, head of the Crop Physiology department, behaved inappropriately toward her.
The incident was recorded on a mobile phone, which captured evidence of the harassment. Police have since taken the professor into custody. Tirupati Rural Circle Inspector Chinna Govindu informed the media that Uma Mahesh was arrested near the university flyover.
