Sankranti Holidays in Andhra Pradesh: Official Dates Announced
Sankranti is one of the most significant festivals for rural communities, and it is a time when schools grant extended holidays. People from various walks of life—whether students, professionals, or businesspeople—travel back to their hometowns to celebrate the festival with family and friends. This makes Sankranti holidays especially important.
Amidst widespread speculation on social media about this year’s Sankranti holidays, the Andhra Pradesh government has clarified the official dates. Krishna Reddy, Director of SCERT (State Council of Educational Research and Training), announced that Sankranti holidays will be observed from January 10 to January 19, as per the academic calendar for the 2024–2025 academic year.
He refuted rumors circulating on social media claiming that holidays would be limited to January 11–15 or January 12–16 due to earlier closures caused by rains in some districts. Krishna Reddy urged the public not to believe such misinformation, reaffirming that the official holiday schedule remains unchanged.
Additionally, the Andhra Pradesh government has already published the official holiday list for 2025. The calendar includes 23 general holidays and 21 optional holidays.
