Indian-Origin Man Sentenced to Life in UK for Mother's Murder

A UK court has sentenced a 48-year-old Indian-origin man to life imprisonment for the murder of his 76-year-old mother in Leicester. The incident occurred at their residence, where the man attacked and killed his mother, Bhajan Kaur.

On May 13, Leicester police discovered Bhajan Kaur's body with severe head and facial injuries. Her son, Sandeep Singh, was taken into custody and later presented at Leicester Crown Court. After a 16-day trial, the court found Singh guilty of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit's Murder Investigation Team described the case as deeply disturbing. He revealed that after killing his mother, Singh attempted to bury her body in their garden, purchasing a shovel and a sack for the task. However, he failed to complete the act and panicked when a foul smell began emanating from the house.

During the investigation, Singh misled relatives and authorities about Bhajan Kaur's whereabouts. The police began their inquiry after receiving a complaint from suspicious relatives, eventually discovering her body in the house. Initially, Singh denied any knowledge of the incident but later confessed to the murder.
