Supreme Court Transfers Jagan’s Disproportionate Assets Case to Another Bench
A significant development has occurred in the Supreme Court concerning the disproportionate assets case involving YSRCP leader and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. The bench led by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) has decided to transfer the case to another bench. Although the CJI’s bench had been hearing arguments in this matter, it recently resolved to assign it to a different bench.
Jagan, who is currently on bail in the disproportionate assets case, faced a petition previously filed by MP Raghu Ramakrishna Raju seeking the cancellation of his bail. Additionally, Raju has filed another petition requesting that the case hearings be moved from Hyderabad to another state.
The Telangana High Court had previously ruled that judgments in the CBI cases should precede judgments in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases, even though CBI and ED cases were conducted separately or in parallel. In response, the ED filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding this ruling.
When the case came up for hearing on Tuesday, Justice Sanjay Kumar, part of the CJI-led bench, stated “Not Before Me.” Following this, CJI Justice Sanjiv Khanna directed the case to another bench. The CJI clarified that while Justice Sanjay Kumar had previously marked “Not Before Me” for this case, it had been mistakenly listed before him again on Tuesday. The case is now scheduled to be heard by the bench of Justice Abhay S. Oka on December 2, and Justice Oka's bench will also hear both of MP Raju’s petitions.
