Keep your valuables in old clothes: police to people

Vijayawada, Dec 20, 2014: In a highly controversial statement ,Vijayawada Police Commissioner AB Venkateswara Rao on Saturday asked people to keep their valuables such as cash, gold, silver and other items in old clothes to avoid burglaries and theft. Participating in an Open House discussion, he made it clear it is very difficult for the present police set up to control crime. " The present police set up can not control crime. You take your precautions by keeping your valuables in old clothes," he said. The crimes are on the rise in Vijayawada and elsewhere purely because of negligence of the people, he said. "we need more police staff to control crime and new recruitment may cost around Rs. 100 Cr. Again, it will be a burden on the people, " he remarked , expressing his helplessness in controlling crimes, especially burglaries, house breaking and theft.
