Complete first phase of Vijayawada Metro by 2018, Naidu tells officials

Hyderabad, Sep 04: Chief Minister N Chandrababu has said that there is no dearth of funds for Vijayawada Metro Rail project. A delegation led by Delhi Metro Rail chief Sreedharan called on the CM at AP Assembly here today. They discussed Vijayawada Metro Rail works at length. Chandrababu asked Sreedharan to complete the first phase of Vijayawada Metro Rail by 2018. The CM assured that Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) would provide funds for the project. He directed the officials to review the project works on monthly basis. The state government has planned to take up Metro Rail projects in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada and submitted the proposals to Centre. But the Centre informed that Vijayawada does not qualify for the criteria for being sanctioned with a metro rail project.
