Postal parcel services are so cheap!

The Indian Postal Department has been offering parcel services, keeping in mind various needs of its customers. There are two kinds of services and these are express and ordinary services. As the name implies, the parcels are delivered fast in express service. The Postal department offers these services on a par with private courier services. This article will give you all the information on postal parcel services.  

These services are available for both business organisations and retail customers. In these services, the parcels are delivered safe and fast. The department makes use of the services of aeroplanes and other means of transport for delivering parcels.

Postal charges

Retail customers can send the parcels anywhere between 0.5 kg and 20 kgs. If the receiver of the parcel is in the same town, the sender has to pay postal charges of Rs.30 for 0.5 kg of parcel. Till another 5 kgs, Rs.8 has to be paid for every 0.5 kg increase in the weight of the parcel. Above 5 kgs of parcel, the sender has to pay Rs.10 for every 0.5 kg increase in the weight of parcel.

If the receiver of the parcel is in the same state, Rs.50 has to be paid for the parcels weighing upto 0.5 kg. Till another 5 kgs, Rs.14 has to be paid for every 0.5 kg increase in parcel weight. After 5 kgs, Rs.16 has to be paid for every 0.5 kg of parcel.

For the neighboring state, Rs.60 has to be paid for all parcels that weigh up to 500 grams. Till 5 kgs of weight, Rs.18 has to be paid for every 500 grams increase in the weight of parcel.After 5 kgs, Rs.20 has to be paid for every increase of 500 grams weight.

For the states other than neighboring states, Rs.80 has to be paid for all the parcels that weigh upto 500 grams. Till 5 kgs of weight, Rs.20 has to be paid for every 500 grams increase in weight of parcel. After 5 kgs of weight, Rs.22 has to be paid for every 500 grams increase in the weight of parcel.

Express service is available for sending the parcels between metro cities and state capitals. In this mode of sending, Rs.70 has to be paid for the parcels that weigh upto 0.5 kg. Till 5 kgs, Rs.18 has to be paid for every 500 grams increase of parcel weight. After 5 kgs, Rs.12 has to be paid for every 500 grams of parcel weight increase.

Too high courier charges

For sending any parcel (non-document) in postal parcel from Hyderabad to Vijayawada, the charges are Rs.50 for every 500 grams weight. One has to pay Rs.80 for sending the same in light service of DTDC (a private courier service). The charge is Rs.200 for sending the same in surface line of Blue Dart. The charge is Rs.300 for sending the same in domestic priority mode.

One has to pay Rs.60 for sending any parcel (non-document) that weighs upto 500 grams through post from Hyderabad to Chennai. The charge is Rs.98 for sending the same in light service of DTDC. One has to pay Rs.310 for sending the same in  domestic priority  mode of Blue Dart. The charge is Rs.200 for sending the parcel through surface line of Blue Dart. For sending any cover that has negligible weight, the postal department charges Rs.40  while the courier agencies charge Rs.100.

Nowadays, the courier agencies have their offices in small towns too. But, the Postal Department has offices even in remote villages. It has 1.39 lakh branches in rural areas. Even now, only the Postal Department covers all India. All have a good opinion on the Postal Department. The department has a tracking facility through which one can know the status of their parcel.

If parcel is missed...

If the parcel is missed or damaged for any reason, either a compensation of Rs.1000 or the value of the parcel is given for the person who booked it (whichever amount is less is given). This is mainly intended for business persons who can send any parcel that has a weight between 2 kgs and 35 kgs.

Parcel service

One can send anything in postal parcels except some prohibited items. Normally, the parcels that have a weight of more than 4 kgs are not accepted. If the receiver can come to customer branch Post Office for receiving the parcel, parcels weighing between 10 kgs and 20 kgs are also accepted. The length and breadth of an item should not cross 1.80 m. The postal department does not accept the parcels that are above the limit.

If the postal staff suspects that there are letters in the parcel, the charges under registered post are collected.

If the postal staff suspects that the parcel has prohibited items, the post man opens the parcel in front of the receiver and the necessary charges are collected.

If foreign parcels are missed, a compensation of $4.5 per kg is given.

Insurance

One can take insurance for registered letters, VPP letters, registered parcels and VPP parcels. In branch post offices, insurance can be taken for Rs.600. The insurance amount can be upto Rs.1 lakh in other post offices. In some cases, the insurance amount can be taken as per the true value of the parcel too. Insurance amount will be paid if the article is missed or damaged.

If anyone wants to get an insurance, Rs.10 has to be paid if the value of the parcel is Rs.200 and Rs.6 for every Rs.100 value increase of the  parcel.
