How to get PAN card on your own

Giving PAN card number is compulsory for several kinds of financial transactions these days. So, every person is advised to get it at the earliest. For getting the key document, one need not go to any office. One can sit in front of the computer at your home and apply online and the PAN card will be directly despatched to your home.

Documents to be submitted for applying for PAN card are ID proof, address proof, date of birth proof and two passport size photos. Further, any changes in PAN card can be done by ourselves online and the process is very simple.

Documents accepted as ID proof : Any one of the following documents is accepted as ID proof. They are Aadhar card, Voter ID card, driving licence. passport, ration card (acceptable only if the applicant's photo is there on the card), Arm’s licence, ID card issued by central and state governments and public sector undertakings, pensioner card with the applicant's photo on it, central government health scheme card, ex-servicemen contributory health scheme photo card, certificate of identity in original signed by an MP, MLA, municipal councilor or a gazetted officer and bank certificate in original on the letterhead.

Documents accepted as Address proof : Any one of the following documents is accepted as address proof. Aadhar card, Voter ID card, driving licence, passport, post office passbook having applicant's address,  latest property tax assessment order, domicile certificate issued by government, allotment letter of accommodation issued by any government, property registration document and certificate of address signed by an MP, MLA,municipal councilor or gazetted officer.

However, electricity bill, landline telephone bill, broadband connection bill, water bill, cooking gas passbook or bill, bank account statement, depository account (DP) statement, credit card statement are also accepted as address proofs. But, they must have been issued three months before the date of applying for PAN card.

Documents accepted as Date of Birth proof : Aadhar card, voter ID card, passport, driving licence, date of birth certificate issued by the municipality, pension payment order, tenth class certificate, marriage registration certificate issued by registrar and date of birth affidavit issued by magistrate.

If the PAN card is needed for a minor, the necessary documents of either of the parents or guardian are needed. The date of birth certificate and passport photo must belong to the minor only. However, such minors have to apply for PAN card correction after they attained the age of 18 years. This is being done for easy identification of the person.

Procedure of applying for PAN card

Companies and business organisations generally get the PAN card services through mediatory organisations. So, we are giving you the procedure of how the ordinary person can get the PAN card.

Application procedure through UTIITSL is very simple when compared to NSDL. You can enter https://www.utiitsl.com and login there. You can find the column 'Apply as a Resident Indian'. You have to click at 'Apply for PAN card (Form 49A)' and fill in all the columns in the form. It is advised to read all the guidelines before starting to fill in all the columns in the form. The necessary guidelines are available at http://www.myutiitsl.com/

After filling in all the columns, you have to select payment option and click submit button. The fee is Rs.107 for Indians residing in India and Rs.989 for Indians residing outside India. The figures may change depending on the changes in service tax. By clicking at submit button, you can find the filled in application form so that you can check the details once more. If all the details are correct, then you have the click 'Confirm' button. You can find payment guidelines in the next page and also transaction number. This number is useful for future reference. The payment can be done through net banking, credit card and debit card.

Once the payment process is completed, you can find the filled in application form and you can save this form and get its printout. You have to put your signature at three places in the form. Two recent photos have to be affixed on the application.  These photos must be of size 3.5 X 2.5 and they should be affixed with gum only and they shoud not be stapled. Your signature on the photo must be extended onto the application form. If the candidate places his or her thumb impression, it must be attested by a magistrate, notary or any gazetted officer with their official stamp on the form.        

The filled in application form with all the details must be sent to any of the following addresses within 15 days of applying for the PAN card.

Applying through NSDL

You have to enter the website https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/  After entering the website, you will find several options like new card, changes in PAN card and others. Once you clicked at 'New PAN for Indian Citizens', you will get an application form (49A) along with necessary guidelines. After reading the guidelines, you have to click at 'New PAN card'. Here, you will find three options like Individual, Hindu undivided family and company. If you click at Individual, you will get 49A.

In the application form, you have to enter Area Code, AO type and AO number. More details on the same are available by clicking at 'For non international taxation AO details'. If you have any further doubts, you can call 18001801961. After filling in all the details in the form, you have to select payment option. The payment can be done through net banking, credit card, debit card or demand draft. You will be directed to the application form once you click at 'Submit' button. If all the details filled in are correct, you can click confirm and then the payment process starts. The demand draft must be drawn infavour of 'NSDL-PAN' and payable at Mumbai. You have to provide all the details of the demand draft in the application form. Once the payment process is completed, you will get 15-digit acknowledgement number. It is advised to get the printout of the page. You have to affix two photos and put your signature on the form. All necessary documents mentioned earlier in the article have to be sent along with the application form. If you chose demand draft option, it must be sent along with the application form. You have to write 'APPLICATION FOR PAN.......15 digit acknowledgment number' and sent to the following address within 15 days.

You have to remember that issuing of PAN card takes an additional time of four days if you did the payment through demand draft.
