Telangana Villages to Get Internet for ₹300: TVs Turn into Computers

The Telangana government is set to bring a transformative change to rural households by introducing affordable internet connectivity. Starting this initiative, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will launch the Telangana FiberNet services on Sunday, December 8. This project aims to provide internet access to every home in the state’s rural areas for just ₹300, enabling TVs to function as computers, according to officials.

The FiberNet connection will deliver high-speed internet at 20 Mbps, enabling users to perform online transactions and educational activities seamlessly. This service is expected to be highly beneficial for students as it turns traditional TVs into functional computers. Public offices and schools in villages will also be equipped with FiberNet connections to enhance operational efficiency.

Additionally, advanced surveillance systems with high-tech CCTV cameras will be installed in village squares and other strategic locations. These cameras will be integrated into local police station command control systems, improving security and monitoring capabilities.

The state government plans to extend FiberNet services to 63 lakh rural households in phases. This connection not only provides internet but also offers telephone services and access to  OTT platforms. The first phase will cover 2,096 gram panchayats in the districts of Narayanpet, Sangareddy, and Peddapalli. Subsequent phases will extend the service to other villages across the state.

The initiative is part of the central government’s BharatNet scheme, which aims to provide internet access to all rural areas across India. Under this scheme, Telangana has been allocated ₹2,500 crore, which will fund the implementation of FiberNet in the state.
