AP Government Repeals Judicial Preview Act

The Andhra Pradesh government has made another key decision by repealing the Judicial Preview Act in the state. Governor Justice Abdul Nazeer has issued a notification formalizing this decision.

The YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government had introduced the Andhra Pradesh Infrastructure (Judicial Preview Transparency) Act in 2019 to ensure transparency in the tendering process. At that time, the government appointed a retired High Court judge as the Judicial Preview Judge. According to the Act, any tender with an estimated expenditure of ₹100 crore or more had to be reviewed by the Judicial Preview Judge before finalization.

However, the current coalition government has deemed the Judicial Preview Act unnecessary. The state cabinet opined that transparency in tenders is already ensured through adherence to central guidelines and vigilance commission rules. Following this assessment, the government decided to repeal the Act. The Governor’s approval of the proposal has led to the issuance of the notification.
