Telangana Police Highlight Parcel Scam Threat
Fraudsters are constantly devising new methods to cheat unsuspecting people. A fresh cyber scam has come to light, where scammers pretend to represent reputed companies and frighten victims with fake claims about drug-laden parcels.
According to Telangana Police, the scammers call individuals claiming that a parcel in their name contains drugs or other illegal substances. Soon after, they impersonate customs officials, citing legal cases and sections of the law to intimidate victims into paying large sums of money to avoid prosecution.
The police have warned citizens to remain vigilant against such fraudulent activities. They advised people not to believe calls regarding parcels they have not booked, particularly if the callers mention drugs or other prohibited items. Telangana Police urged victims to report such scams immediately by calling the helpline number 1930.
“Stay alert and do not fall prey to such scams,” the police emphasized in an official statement shared through social media platforms. They also highlighted that scammers often use fear tactics, citing cases and legal jargon to extract money from victims.
