IMD issues red alert for Telangana for two days

Hyderabad, July 11: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert for a few districts in the State and warned of very heavy rains on Monday and Tuesday. According to IMD officials, there is a possibility of 61 cm rainfall in Nizamabad, Jagtial and Nirmal districts. They said there would be more than 35 cm rainfall in many places.
 
Meanwhile, in the wake of incessant heavy rains in the State, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao declared three days holidays – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – for all schools across the State. He suggested people not to venture on to the roads unless and until it is necessary. 
 
Highest rainfall of 35 cm was recorded in Kaleswaram of Bhupalpally district from Saturday morning to Sunday morning. It should be noted here that very heavy rains recorded in 20 areas and heavy rains in 56 areas. 
 
Transport came to a standstill in Muthol mandal as roads got damaged. Due to digging of national highway 63 to divert flood waters at Lakshmipur, Kotapalli mandal, transportation to Maharashtra State stalled.
 
Two women died due to rain in separate districts on Sunday. Assistant branch postmaster Bora Adilakshmi died due to electrocution in Sunnabmbatti village, Dummugudem mandal, Kothagudem district. An elderly woman Jayamma died after her house collapsed due to heavy rains in Gandhi Nagar, Govindaraopet mandal, Mulugu district.
